Rituals of the Earth features the ceramics of William Mateer and James Kerns. After meeting in college in the 70’s, they have been friends and making pottery ever since.
About the Artist – James E. Kerns
James E. Kerns lives in Cedar Falls, Iowa. He attended University of Northern Iowa (UNI), gaining BA degrees in Studio Art and Physics. Kerns is continuously creating porcelain and stoneware pottery and has been for the past 53 years while completing a 40-year career with Deere & Co, and 10 years with James E Kerns Consulting. He also taught Ceramics at UNI. Kerns is represented in numerous public permanent collections, and innumerable private collections.
About the Artist – William Mateer
William Mateer lives on a farm in Sheffield, Iowa. He attended the University of Northern Iowa (UNI), gaining a BA degree in Studio Art. From 1971 – 1973, Mateer worked in the Peace Corp in Ethiopia. He taught ceramics at North Iowa Area Community College and continues to make pottery in his home studio. He has pottery in various private collections.
