Dedicated in the summer of 2019, the Sukup Lakeside Courtyard was open for the community to enjoy a dedicated space displaying a rotating exhibition of sculptures. In a early spring a request for proposals was posted to build a pool of sculptures to select from. A small volunteer selection committee reviewed the proposals and selected this year’s finalists. Each artist received a stipend for the season.
The 2019 sculpture garden features work by these five sculptors: Tim Adams of Webster City, IA; Whitney Bjustom of Emmetsburg, IA; Hilde DeBruyne of Cumming, IA; Jerry Nelson of Clear Lake, IA; Craig Snyder of Plymouth, MN.
A People’s Choice Award will be given on September 15, 2019 to Jerry Nelson for Binary II. Voting began at the Celebrate the Arts event and closed on September 14.
Kathy Ingram, board President said, “The wait is over for Sukup Lakeside Courtyard and Sculpture Garden. The Arts Center is thrilled to add to our community’s long list of special attractions and look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to this special celebration.”
