Statement
The hubris of the cliché “man is at the top of the food chain” always seemed puzzling to me, so I created a fun and colorful piece to illustrate the irony of this perception at times.
About the Artist – Jerry Nelson
Jerry Nelson, MD, pursued a path of science but has been creating and selling steelyard sculpture since medical school. He retired from family practice in 2016 which has enabled him to devote more time to this passion over the last several years. He has exhibited sculptures at several juried shows including Loveland Colorado Sculpture Festival, Reiman Gardens Art Event in Des Moines, IA, and Clear Lake Art Sail. He was the first Iowa sculptor to have a piece in the Mason City Sculpture Walk, and currently has pieces in the Sioux Falls, SD Sculpture Walk, Watertown, SD Sculpture Walk, and the Clear Lake Art Center Sculpture Garden.
